(08.Jun.10) Two New Additions to Our Portfolio

While the majority of our visitors see the freeware and software releases we publish, fewer are aware of the work we do for our paying clients. We’re pleased two new entries have been added to our design portfolio today.

The first is the user interface and icon design done for the award-winning board game turned iPhone phenomenon, Carcassonne. Recently released, Carcassonne by TheCodingMonkeys, has received rave reviews by users all around the globe. The Iconfactory worked closely with the team at TheCodingMonkeys to design a richly detailed and enjoyable gaming experience that players love.

Second comes the whimsical iconography the Iconfactory did for Digital Arch’s new development software, Briefs. Briefs is an elegant solution to the problem of mocking up iPhone and iPod interfaces, which is given a distinctly humorous slant thanks to its memorable application icons.

We hope you enjoy these sneak peeks as you browse the Iconfactory’s design section. If your company is in need of custom design work, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

(20.May.10) Filing a Flight Plan

When Twitter recently announced they were purchasing Atebits’ popular Twitter application, Tweetie, many critics wrote off all 3rd party apps, including Twitterrific. Well, we’re here to say that not only is Twitterrific alive and kicking, but it’s being actively developed with love by the Iconfactory. There are some exciting changes coming to the ‘Little Blue Bird that Could’ and we wanted to give you a wing up.

Twitterrific fans have waited patiently and watched as we released version 1.0 of the software for the iPad as well as subsequent 1.0.1 and 1.1 updates. Although the surprise announcement of the iPad put our iPhone and Mac plans on temporary hold, the diversion turned out to be well worth it. Twitterrific for iPad has been hailed as the best version of the application since its original launch. The app is simple, easy to use and covers all the bases when it comes to Twitter functionality. Developing for the iPad with its short deadline, forced us to take a hard look at our design decisions and streamline the app for the better.

The result is a code base that we’re using to update Twitterrific for iPhone to version 3.0 and then for 4.0 for the Macintosh. Unifying the various versions will shorten development cycles, but it also means significant changes to the Twitterrific users know and love. There’s so much to cover in fact, that we’ve broken the discussion out onto three of the Iconfactory’s personal blogs.

  • Ged covers the whys and hows of our decision and gives a “big picture” point of view you won’t want to miss.
  • David breaks down the individual UX decisions behind Flamingo (our code name for Twitterrific for iPad) and gives a sneak peek at the UI design behind v 3.0 for the iPhone.
  • Craig outlines why designing for early adopters isn’t always the best idea and how important it is to simplify your design in the modern world of mobile computing.

We realize that development of Twitterrific hasn’t always moved as quickly as our users would have liked. Until last October, our programming resources were limited to Craig’s giant, but single pair of hands. Thankfully, our talented new programmer, Sean Heber, has given Craig the help he needed. This, combined with the support of our users and their desire to see Twitterrific not crash and burn, but rather soar high and far, have given new life to our development efforts. Watch for our all-new version of Twitterrific for iPhone, and then after that the long-awaited Twitterrific for Mac 4.0. Rest assured we’re working hard to get them both into your hands as soon as possible. Thanks everyone!

(12.May.10) Twitterrific 1.1 Brings Image Upload & OAuth

We invite you to download and enjoy the latest update to Twitterrific for iPad free of charge. Users who purchase the in-app upgrade can manage multiple Twitter accounts and remove advertising from the timeline.

Stay tuned as we turn our attention back to the iPhone and bring the iPad’s feature set and ease of use to Apple’s better known mobile platform in the days ahead. Tweet, tweet!

(11.May.10) Flurry Extras 3 for Thee

David Lanham has created over 30 new Flurry icons for your Mac or PC desktop and contains such applications as Fever, Steam for Mac, SuperDuper, VLC, Transmission and many more. (04.May.10) Star Trek Props: TOS

Continuing the Star Trek theme at the Iconfactory, Dave Brasgalla has created several new icons based on props for the original 60’s Star Trek series, and updated a few old friends. Much of today’s technology was presaged by the original series, and in some cases, directly influenced by it. Desktop computers, compact data storage, pocket wireless communication devices, magic writing slates – it was all there, and it looked great!

These icons pay tribute to the visionary designers and prop makers who worked to give Gene Roddenberry’s concepts physical form. Fans of the original Star Trek will love this small set of icons available for your Mac, PC or as a handy CandyBar iContainer. Enjoy!

(20.Apr.10) Beware Greeks Bearing Gifts

Myths and legends have long been the basis for modern story telling. The adventures of classic figures such as Hercules, Odysseus and Jason have been told time and time again on stage and screen. Now, Anthony Piraino, who brought you our Indiana Jones series, brings the memorable objects of 1981’s Clash of the Titans to your desktop.

Long before there were computer generated images, stop-motion animation artist Ray Harryhausen created the effects for what many to believe to be his masterpiece. Clash of the Titans tells the tale of demi-god Perseus and his journey to destroy the dreaded Kraken and win the hand of the lovely Andromeda. Fans of the original Clash will love this small set of icons available for your Mac, PC or as a handy CandyBar iContainer. Enjoy!
