Thanks to our ever-industrious Chief Typist, our previous report that none of the workers had hacked or modified their iPhones is now but a distant memory. If you follow Craig’s blog over at Furbo.org, then you know he’s broken into his iPhone like an otter cracks into a clam. We can blame the über-geek environment of the C4[1] developer’s conference, or just Craig’s innate curiosity, but either way you cut it, it’s a good thing.
Far be it for us to question Apple’s strategy when it comes to third party development on the iPhone, but we happen to sit firmly in the “bring native apps to the platform” camp, for obvious reasons. Our campaign to make Frenzic one of the first, official native games for the iPhone is going strong and we’re gratified with the groundswell of support that developers and the general public alike have shown the cause.
With Craig’s recent Javascript benchmark tests showing the limitations of MobileSafari, and more and more developers turning their attention to the iPhone, the pressure is mounting on Apple to provide a true SDK. If Apple is as smart as we know they are, they will find a way to harness the enthusiasm of the Mac development community and put it to work making the iPhone the most robust mobile device on the planet. Stay tuned folks, this is getting good!
