Why do my Mac icons look blurry in the Finder?

Most likely you are looking at icons that were designed and created for the Classic Mac OS and do not contain the larger 128×128 pixel icons that OS X uses. The blur effect is the result of Mac OS X attempting to scale up the 32×32 resources to the full 128×128 size. Doing this results in a blurry icon since the OS is having to “make up” data.
